Another gift-giving idea for you today…

Two years ago, our meal group at Crossroads pooled togther $200 at our last gathering of the year and invested it in Kiva, a network of microfinance institutions that provides a way for individuals to
lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.

We started by helping a Ugandan widow named Jane purchase food and drinks for the pub she uses to support her grandchildren and orphans. In less than six months she repayed us in full, at which point we re-lended the money to a Kenyan man named Simon who needed to purchase a van for his transport business.

Since then, our $200 has been re-loaned to 15 other entreprenuers in various African countries. You can read each of their stories and learn about their businesses by visiting our lender page.

Kiva giftcards and piggy banks make fantastic gifts, especially for kids, so grab a few today instead of giving more of your money to Target. 🙂
